Taxi
Metered taxis at the pier; insist on the meter or agree a flat fare in writing first
Yellow metered taxis line up at the pier exit. A short ride within Kusadasi is 100–250 TL; the run to Ephesus Lower Gate is roughly 500–800 TL one-way (no waiting), and a return with 2–3 hours waiting at the site is typically negotiated as a flat 1,800–2,800 TL ($55–85). Always confirm the meter is on, or agree a written flat fare before you get in — this is the single most common dispute at Turkish cruise ports. There is no Uber in Kusadasi; BiTaksi works in some larger Turkish cities but coverage is thin here. For the Ephesus run, a pre-booked driver-guide is usually a better deal than a metered taxi by the time you add waiting time.
Currency
Turkish lira (TL); cards work everywhere, decline DCC, ATMs inside Scala Nuova
The currency is the Turkish lira (TL or ₺). As of mid-2026 the rate fluctuates around 32–38 TL to 1 USD; check before you spend. Cards (chip-and-PIN and contactless) are accepted at the Ephesus ticket gates, in restaurants, in most bazaar shops, and at all taxi ranks of any size. Many vendors quote in euros or dollars — they usually offer a worse rate than your card, so prefer paying in lira or with a card in lira. Always decline DCC (dynamic currency conversion) when the terminal asks. ATMs (Garanti, İş Bankası, Yapı Kredi) are inside the Scala Nuova terminal and along Atatürk Bulvarı. Small tips in lira coins are welcome but not obligatory; restaurant service charges are usually included.
Day trip
Ephesus + Terrace Houses (4–5 hrs); add Virgin Mary + Şirince for 7 hrs total
The realistic cruise-day excursions all radiate inland from the pier. Ephesus archaeological site plus the Terrace Houses is the core 4–5 hour trip — 25–35 minutes drive each way to Selçuk, 2–3 hours walking the site. Add the House of the Virgin Mary (Meryem Ana Evi, 15 minutes from the Upper Gate) and the village of Şirince (15 minutes from Selçuk, known for fruit wines) for a 7-hour full loop. Pamukkale is too far for a cruise day (200 km east, 6 hours drive round trip) — do not attempt it under 11 hours in port. Private driver-guides via the Kusadasi tourism cooperative or licensed Selçuk operators run $150–220/person in a small group; ship excursions run $80–150/person and cover the same ground more slowly.
Dock
Ege Ports / Scala Nuova in central Kusadasi — alongside berth, walk straight into town
Ships dock at Ege Ports, marketed as Scala Nuova, right at the head of Kusadasi harbor. Alongside berths for two large ships simultaneously, no tendering. The terminal building is a shopping arcade — duty-free, jewelry, leather, a Starbucks — and you exit straight onto the Kusadasi waterfront, a 5-minute walk from the Grand Bazaar (Kaleiçi) and the central pedestrian streets. There is no shuttle because there is nowhere to shuttle to. Restrooms, ATMs, and tour-operator desks are inside the terminal. Taxi rank and tour-bus parking are on the pier-side road just outside the exit.
Beach clubs
Ladies Beach (Kadınlar Plajı) 4 km south; small free city beaches in town
Kusadasi main public beach is Ladies Beach (Kadınlar Plajı), about 4 km south of the cruise pier — a 100 TL taxi or a 15 TL dolmuş minibus from Atatürk Bulvarı. It is a curving sand bay with rentable loungers (typically 150–250 TL for a sunbed and umbrella) and beach restaurants. There are also small free city beaches within walking distance of the pier on the harbor side, but they are more for swimming-laps than lounging. Most cruise visitors skip the beach entirely in favor of Ephesus; if your ship is in for 11+ hours and the day is hot, a 2-hour beach break after the ruins is reasonable.
