Jeju is the volcanic island South Korea claims as its own little Hawaii — except the swimming season is short, the waterfalls are colder than they look, and the local pork is the actual headline.
Pick one half of the island. East side gets you Seongsan Ilchulbong (sunrise peak, ~1 hour drive from port) and Manjanggul lava tube. South side gets you Jeongbang and Cheonjiyeon waterfalls plus Seogwipo (~1 hour drive). Trying to do both in a port day means seeing neither properly.
Hallasan summit hikes are 8-10 hours round trip and not realistic on a cruise day; the lower trails or a drive to the 1100 Highland viewpoint are the cruise-passenger compromise.

Taxis in Jeju are metered. Base fare is around 4,000 won, with a small late-night surcharge. Most drivers don't speak much English — keep your destination written in Hangul on your phone, or use Kakao T (Korea's main ride app). Cash and most international cards work; tipping is not expected.
Korea is one of the most card-friendly countries on Earth — even small market stalls take card. Carry a little cash (10,000-30,000 won) for taxis with old meters and the odd street vendor. ATMs at the port and convenience stores work with most foreign cards; pick KRW over your home currency at the prompt to avoid dynamic-currency-conversion markup.
From the cruise terminal, the east loop (Seongsan Ilchulbong + Manjanggul) and the south loop (Jusangjeollidae + Jeongbang + Cheonjiyeon waterfalls in Seogwipo) are each a full day. Each is about an hour's drive each way. Buses exist but eat time; a private taxi for the day runs roughly 150,000-200,000 won.
Ships tie up at Jeju Cruise Terminal in Jeju City. It's a working terminal — not pretty, but a short taxi ride from downtown, Dongmun Market, and the airport. Some smaller ships use Seogwipo on the south coast instead; check your itinerary.
Jeju is famous for its haenyeo — the women free-divers who still harvest abalone and sea urchin without scuba gear. Recreational scuba exists (Seogwipo has operators) but the cold water and currents make it intermediate-plus, not a beginner shore excursion.
Jeju's beaches are short-season — swimming really only July through early September. Hyeopjae on the west coast and Hamdeok near the airport are the most cruise-accessible. Outside of summer they're scenic walks with cold feet, not swim stops.
About 50 km east, roughly an hour each way by taxi or shore-excursion bus. The crater hike itself is a 25-30 minute climb on well-maintained wooden stairs. Doable on a port day, but it eats four hours of your eight-hour window before you've done anything else.
Not the summit. The two trails to the top (Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa) are 8-10 hours round-trip and have last-entry cutoffs in the early morning to make sure hikers are off the mountain before dark. Shorter trails like Eorimok or Yeongsil (2-3 hours) work if you've arranged transport.
If you like caves, yes. About one kilometer of the tube is open to the public, ending at a seven-meter lava column. It's cold and damp year-round (about 12 degrees Celsius), so bring a layer even in summer. The drive from port is about 40 minutes.
Loveland is an outdoor sculpture park about ten minutes from the port, full of explicitly adult statues and dioramas. Strictly 19-and-over. It is what it is — some people find it funny, others find it tasteless, almost no one finds it boring. Not a place to take grandchildren.
The black pork street (Heuk-dwaeji Geori) in Jeju City is a short taxi ride from the terminal, lined with grill restaurants. Order the samgyeopsal (belly) or moksal (collar) cuts. Dongmun Traditional Market is also nearby and good for street food, hairtail, and hallabong tangerines.
Jusangjeollidae is a stretch of hexagonal basalt columns on the south coast near Jungmun, the same volcanic geometry you see at Giant's Causeway in Ireland. Pair it with Jeongbang Waterfall (one of the few in Asia that drops directly into the sea) and Cheonjiyeon for a full south-side day. Drive time from port is about an hour each way.
