Saint-Tropez has spent sixty years being famous for being famous, and the cruise ships that anchor in its bay are just the latest in a long line of people who wanted a look. You tender into the Vieux Port, step off, and find a small Provençal fishing village wearing a great deal of money very lightly.
Ships anchor in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and tender passengers into the Vieux Port. There is no cruise pier — the tender drops you right at the old harbor, a few minutes' walk from the village center.
Tender ports depend on weather; a strong mistral wind can delay or cancel tendering, so build some slack into shore plans.
Taxis wait near the Vieux Port. A ride to the Pampelonne Beach clubs runs roughly 20–30 minutes; agree the fare or confirm the meter before setting off, as summer demand pushes prices up. Pre-booking a transfer is wise in July and August.
France uses the euro. Cards are accepted almost everywhere; carry a little cash for small market stalls in the Place des Lices. ATMs are available in the village. Decline dynamic currency conversion and pay in euros to avoid poor exchange rates.
Port Grimaud, the canal village around the bay, is reachable by taxi or seasonal shuttle boat and makes an easy half-day add-on. Allow extra time and confirm the last shuttle or return taxi so you are back aboard before all-aboard time.

The village is — the Vieux Port, Place des Lices, La Ponche old quarter, the Citadelle, and the Musée de l'Annonciade are all an easy walk from where the tender lands. Pampelonne Beach and its beach clubs are not; those need a taxi or a pre-booked transfer south of town.
Walk the Vieux Port and the narrow lanes of La Ponche, climb to the Citadelle for the bay view and its maritime museum, browse the Place des Lices market if it's a Tuesday or Saturday, and give the Musée de l'Annonciade an hour for its Signac and Bonnard paintings. It is a half-day of sightseeing done at a stroll.
Club 55 and the other Pampelonne Beach clubs are a 20–30 minute taxi ride south of the Vieux Port, and they are expensive — expect to pay well for a sunbed, and reserve ahead in summer. They are a genuine experience if beach-club people-watching is your thing; if it isn't, the village is the better use of a port day.
July and August, by a wide margin. The village is small and the summer crush is real — narrow streets, full restaurants, queues for everything. Shoulder season, May–June or September–October, is far more pleasant and is when most cruise itineraries call anyway.
Yes. This is the Côte d'Azur at its most polished, and prices for food, drinks, and beach clubs reflect the yacht crowd the town caters to. A coffee on the Vieux Port costs what a lunch might elsewhere. You can keep costs down by eating a street or two back from the harbor and treating the beach clubs as optional.
