The Heraklion Archaeological Museum houses one of the world's finest collections of Minoan artifacts, and the Palace of Knossos — Europe's oldest city and the center of Minoan civilization — is just outside the city, a short drive from the port. The city's Venetian harbor, fortress, and market streets are all within easy walking distance.
