Valletta is the capital of Malta and one of the smallest national capitals in the European Union, yet it packs a remarkable density of Baroque architecture, grand churches, and museums into its fortified peninsula. Built by the Knights of St. John in the 16th century, the entire city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
