The port is the departure point for visits to Gorée Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former slave-trading post just 3 km offshore, accessible by short ferry. The city itself offers the IFAN Museum of African Arts, colorful markets, and the striking African Renaissance Monument, one of the tallest statues in Africa.
