TPA is about 9 miles from Port Tampa Bay's cruise terminals — roughly 15 minutes without traffic. A taxi runs a flat $25 fare to the port; Uber and Lyft typically run $20-30 depending on demand. The airport is closer to the cruise port than at almost any other US embarkation city.

Every ship leaving Tampa Bay must pass under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, which has approximately 190 feet (about 58 m) of vertical clearance. Royal Caribbean's Oasis- and Icon-class ships and similar new megaships exceed that height, so they're routed to Port Canaveral, Miami, or Fort Lauderdale instead. Tampa gets mid-size Carnival, Royal, and Norwegian ships.

Three active terminals at Channelside: Terminal 2 (often Royal Caribbean), Terminal 3 (Carnival's home terminal), and Terminal 6 (Norwegian and rotating lines). All three are within walking distance of each other and of the Florida Aquarium, the Tampa Riverwalk, and Sparkman Wharf.

Channelside is the easy answer — restaurants and the Florida Aquarium are walkable from any terminal. For something with more character, the TECO Streetcar runs from downtown to Ybor City in about 10 minutes; Ybor is the historic Cuban-Spanish cigar-rolling district with old brick warehouses, the Columbia Restaurant (Florida's oldest, 1905), and roosters wandering the sidewalks unbothered.

Clearwater Beach is about 30 minutes west by car and is consistently rated among the best US beaches. St. Pete Beach is a similar drive south. Neither is walkable from the cruise terminals, so you'll need a rental car, ride share, or pre-cruise hotel transfer. Plan a half-day minimum if you go.

United States dollars (USD). Cards are accepted everywhere in Tampa, including taxis and the streetcar. Tipping is expected: $1-2 per bag for porters at the cruise terminal, 18-20% at restaurants. ATMs are plentiful around Channelside and inside TPA.
