Horta is the main port of Faial island in the Azores and one of the most famous transatlantic waypoints in the world, known for the tradition of sailors painting colorful murals on the harbor walls of the Marina da Horta. The town offers a relaxed, authentic Azorean atmosphere with excellent cafes, a 16th-century fortress, and a short ferry ride to neighboring Pico island and its UNESCO-listed volcanic landscape.
